BB Creams, Oh The Obsession!

Hey Mom!  Make up take too long??

I know what every mother thinks, “I don’t have time to do make up anymore”.  I think there is a picture going around on FB and I quote “I traded eyeliner for dark circles, salon hair cuts for a pony tail, designer jeans for sweat pants, long hot bathes for  lucky if I get
A shower, late nights for early morning cartoons, designer purses for diaper bags and I wouldn’t change a thing”.

Moms!  It does not have to be this way!  As tired as we can all become, all the running around, cleaning up the messes, trying to remember each and every little thing we must not forget to do!  But that is the problem, we forget to do them.  I am a mother of 2 boys myself,  I know what its like to forget things, however, because not all of us  mom’s wear “Mom Jeans” I want to let mother’s out there know about  how they can always have a nice clean slate to work with make-up wise!  BB Cream!

What is BB Cream you ask??  Beauty Balm.  I love BB cream because it really cuts the time in half when going into my make up regimen.  It does so much for such a little tube!  It conceals, brightens, evens out the skin tone and gives just the right amount of coverage.  With all the BB Cream craze now, its kind of hard not to give it the benefit of the doubt.

You have to know that BB Cream is my new secret weapon.  I love this stuff, it really gives me a chance to put my best face forward everyday.  When I feel like a million bucks, I certainly act like it!  What  a little make up can do to boost the confidence is amazing.  A little something for myself couldn’t hurt right?  Not at all.  So I tried it and I LOVE it!
Investing a little bit of time and money into our skin is always a plus!  Here are some of my favorite BB Creams:

Dr. JART + Premium Beauty Balm – I love the light weight formula.  Its SPF 45 and it coverage is amazing.  It really helps to even things out lovely.  $39.00 Sephora.com

Stila Stay all day 10 in 1 HC Beauty Balm – I love that is one acts like a primer as well.  This one really preps the skin for your next make up application in such a flawless way with out all the Junk that clogs the pores!  $38.00 Sephora.com

MAC  Prep + Prime SPF 35 – This one is awesome, it really stays where you put it and helps protect the skin from sun damage and lightly tinted to really work with your natural beauty! $30.00 MACcosmetics.com

L’Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream -  I was really shocked when I tried this one, it was light weight and really made my skin glow, all in one application!  $10.95 Duane Reade

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB -  This one gave me the most compliments from strangers!  I loved the coverage, the formula is amazing,  I really gave my face everything it needed to look fresh and ready for the day.  It lasts a super long time and is super light weight.  It also has SPF 30!  Protecting my skin to the fullest.  I even thought my skin felt super hydrated!  $9.95 CVS or Duane Reade.

SO whether you invest $30 or $9.95, taking a few minutes to do something for you is so rewarding in the end.  Every mom deserves it!  Celebrate your beauty!

Enjoy JV

The Perfect Blow Out!!

The Perfect Blow out!

You know what cooler weather means!  Great hair weather!!  Every time fall comes around, I always start to prep my hair.  I go get a good trim and because I am growing it out, the majority of the summer I just let it air dry and go!  Kind of giving it a break so that when the fall comes around, so I can have my best hair!

This is easy enough for the mommy on the go too!  If you do not like to fumble with your hair all week, once a week can work for you, look at it as a bit of YOU time!

Once a week, I always give it a treatment of some sort.  If I feel that it’s a bit dry or over worked, a good Avocado mask (made right at home) is just the right remedy for my hair.  I mash some ripe avocado put the mask on dry unwashed hair and go about my business for at least a half hour (aka cleaning up the house while I let the avocado do its job).  Once I am ready to rinse, I let the water saturate my hair first before washing, then I get the shampoo (I use regular shampoo for this because you do not want your hair with residue left over, it will weigh down the blow dry) I wash it at least 2 times, then a condition.  Since I do this once a week, for many years, I find that this really keeps my scalp healthy.  If you work on keeping the scalp healthy, the rest will follow.  TRUST ME! I’ve tried it!  Try Treseme shampoo and conditioner, I use that because it does not have any sodium chloride, it is a harsh salt that will rinse out my keratin treatment faster, so I avoid any shampoo and conditioner with that salt.

After the treatment and the good wash and condition, I use a turbie twist.  You can find this at CVS and Duane Reade for $4.99.  This is really the secret to a great blow out.  It takes out all the water that your hair is holding.  You do not want to blow dry your hair while its seeping wet!  That is a big NO NO.  You will end up burning your hair and its not healthy for the ends.  You DO want to blow dry when your hair is at least 85% dry.  The difference is amazing and really allows your hair to capture volume, shine and brilliance.  I do not add any additional product to my hair because it does get oily quick.  Using a dry shampoo from time to time helps me get an extra day or two out of my hair! ( try Teseme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo $5.50 Duane Reade or Ojon Full Detox, Rub-Out Dry Cleansing Spray $13.00 Sephora.com)

After having my Turbie twist on for a least 20 min, I allow my hair to air dry a bit more, then I section it off, I use clips to section my hair in to 3 parts, the front in half and the back leaving hair starting from the bottom out and clipping the rest up.  (Plain hair clips can be found in packs of 6 or more at your local beauty supply shop for $2.99)

I have 2 size brushes I use the larger one on the bottom and the smaller one on the top sections (larger brushes make your hair straighter, smaller brushes can be used for curling the ends and volume.  Try to use boar bristle brushes, they can with stand the heat.  Others will melt. (Lado Pro brushes start at $5.99 and up and they have a variety of different kinds, I also like their Ceramic & Ion brushes, they are also found at local beauty supply stores) Most important is to clean your brushes after each use.

My hair dryer is my most prized position! (ask my husband!) I take care of it because it has an important job.  I use Turbo Power, Mega Power 4000.  I have come to use that they use in the salons because they last.  However, I also like the  Revlon line of hair dryers as it was the last one standing in my book of all the hair dryers I tried before going profession use.

You want to start from the bottom and work your way up, DO NOT blow dry your hair upwards, make sure the hair and the brush is down and work your way all the way up sectioning each piece of hair as your continue up.  After you blow dry each section, give it a cold shot of air, it really helps make it shine!  After you are done, you can finish with a little Moroccan or Argan oil ( a little goes a long way, so make sure not to get heavy handed with the oil, this is supposed to last the majority of the week!) and Vaa Vaa Voom!  The perfect blow out

Nail Reconstruction....

Hey Ladies....If any of you know me for a while, you will know that I love love love long nails...I always get a french manicure and I love tips!  However, when I take all of the stuff off my nails, its not pretty!!

What do you use?  They look horrible!  I'm talking brittle, broken, and torn to shreds, it actually looks like I was biting them because I was nervous or something!  Well, I have a few tricks that really help out the "reconstruction" of your nails....it makes them look healthy while the weak nail grows out and the new nails grow in...

First- DO NOT rip them off.  I am notorious for doing this.  I do this because I get tired of my nails looking chopped up, especially when I need to go for a fill-in but do not have time...they start to lift.  Its terrible.  Instead, buy some pure acetone, you can find this at beauty supply stores all over.  Its like $3.99 for a bottle.  In a GLASS bowl, fill enough of the bowl with the acetone, place it on the table with some paper towel or new paper to protect your table (it is pure acetone!) and put those pretty fingers in the bowl.

Next- make sure you have a good nail file.  I buy the ones at the beauty supply store for like $1.99, they are heavy duty, usually the tan or black colored ones.  Once your fingers have been soaking for at least  5 minutes, check on it...it will look like gel on your nails now.  Carefully start to file off the gel like substance.  Once you file that off, continue to soak.

Once you finish soaking and you have removed all the acrylic off, check the damage of your natural nail.  You might have some grooves on the nail bed from all of the harsh filing with the file or the machine during your fill-in visits.  That is OK, it will grow out.  Just be sure when you are filing away the chemical on your nail, you do not over file.

Next- Clip off any nail that is damaged.  Naturally, you will have short nails for a while, which is OK.  You are allowing your natural nails to breathe.   Shape your nail after you clip them down, and then buff them out with the "Purple Square". You can also find this at the beauty supply store.  Its the same square they use at the nail salons after they are done with the manicure.  This helps smooth things out and allows you to keep a polish on the nail, neatly.

Now after all of this, you might want to consider using a clear polish to help keep them hard and help grow them out a bit longer, to clip off while your healthy nail is growing in.  I personally like "Nailtiques" Formula 2, it's a nail protein and is wonderful for weak, brittle, pealing nails.  I will use this for at least a month as directed and my nails are healthy in no time.

Here is the best part, in a little squeeze bottle, I put regular "GOYA" olive oil (any olive oil will do, GOYA is what I always have!) in the squeeze bottle, its tiny, like the ones in the nail salon.  I put this on religiously, everyday!  It helps keep my cuticles moisturized.  Moisture is probably the most important step while repairing the health of  your nails.  It really works and helps with healthy growth!  I even do this step before I go to bed,  after every hand wash and even while at work.  Try it!  Once your nails are back to normal, get a simple manicure and keep it up until your ready to try something new like the Gel!  I love it!

Enjoy!

Chemical Peel - At Home!

Summer is almost over and our skin will soon start to repair itself from all of the sun damage from all of the wonderful, fun activities we did over the summer, right?

I know this first hand, as I naturally have freckles.  Over the years, I've noticed that my freckles were lasting almost all year around, and they got darker.  As I became more familiar with my skin, I started looking into doing something more.  Most of the time, I would occasionally go to the spa for a facial, which was awesome but my freckles were more permanent.  Normally, they would fade in the winter time and that would be it until the spring/summer time.

Last year I decided to really try something different.  I went in for a Microdermabrasion.  When I got there, the specialist told me I didn't need such a harsh treatment. I asked her what she thought I needed and she said the magic words - Chemical Peel.  So, I bought a series of chemical peels and started them that same day.  I have to say, the results were AMAZING!

In the package was an actual facial, and the peel itself.  I bought a total of 5 (they had a sale of half off, so naturally, I could not pass that up).  It really was a remedy for my drab ass skin I had after the summer season.  After the first one, my skin was radiant, evenly toned and I even saw a huge difference with my freckles!  Everyone commented on how fresh and glowing my skin looked.  I thought to myself, I found my rejuvenation...

I always have peels ready at my disposal.  The packages that I bought do not expire, so when ever they have a sale, I buy them.  However, with my knee surgery, I have not had the chance to get to the spa for a treatment.  Since I have been indoors since the 10th of July (knee surgery has had me indoors most of the summer) my beautiful deep dark tan that I had in June, is gone...so, I decided to prep my skin for the cold weather.  I find that being indoors most of the summer gives me a head start on using some of my favorite products and actually try some new ones.

In the mist of me finding some new things to try, I came across a wonderful Avon Product called ANEW CLINICAL Advanced Retexturizing Peel Pads (Glycolic Plus Soothing Extracts)
I thought, Glycolic-this is the ingredient that the spa uses on my face.  At home, after I have cleansed my face, I simply take a pad and pass it on my face.  You will feel a slight tingle, that is a good thing, and you allow it to dry and then moisturize after.  That's it.

At the spa, there are 3 types of peels, I go with the Glycolic peel as my skin can tolerate it and my skin also produces a lot of oil in certain places.  I said I am going to give this a try.  I LOVE this product.  It's a great way to refresh your skin for fall, to reveal your best skin ever, and also for those that cannot make it to the spa for a chemical peel, this is a great alternative.  Great for Mom's on the go and for those whose schedule will not let up a bit if "you" time.

People tend to forget to take care of their skin.  It is the largest organ we have and is the most exposed to all of the elements of life (both good and bad).  Crisp air will be here soon, so get a head start on refreshing your skin, beautiful, healthy, glowing skin says a lot with our words.   I like to make that impression....it says a lot about me.  You should too!  You can find this product online, trust me you will not regret.

Enjoy!

Sun Chlorella A- Sunshine in a box!

Having knee surgery was in my mind devastating.   I have never really had surgery before.  I've had 2 children, but never surgery that would effect my everyday life.

I believe in vitamins.  I think that if we take good care of our bodies from the inside out, you will see it, others will see it most of all you will feel it!  There is no better feeling in the world than that of feel spectacular.

Since becoming a mother, I find myself always having to keep my energy levels up, I try to keep healthy with daily exercise and eating healthier (which is not easy).  Trying to get rid of
the last 20lbs or so is the hardest.  My obsession with beautiful clear skin and healthy hair is also at the top of my list.  I may be a mom, but we do not all wear mom jeans!!

Sun Chlorella A I found by accident a in my mid 20's.  I was working as an assistant to a restaurant owner and assistant to an executive chef.  The hours were long and everything I did was quick and it was a very fast paced environment.  There was a really cute health food store near by (I do not remember the name) so I would constantly stop in and get a smoothie.  I was introduced to Sun Chlorella.

As I became more familiar with this product I became a believer.  After about a month of using Sun Chlorella I noticed so many different things about my body, my skin, my hair, just overall.  My energy levels were amazing.  My skin look fabulous! I got a lot of compliments on my skin and hair too!  I noticed that my weight was probably at its best I had ever been, I was able to really take my health where I always wanted it to be.  Sun Chlorella has so many benefits...its a natural blood cleanser, it helps the body recover from sickness, injury and detoxes like no other.  It even takes care of your cardiovascular health (excellent source of Omega 3, Omega 6 and protein)

I love this product because it really puts the pause button on aging.  That's right, it helps fight the sag!  Its the ultimate ant-aging fighter.   I even noticed slowing of gray hair...this is something that I noticed because I used it on a regular basis.  Therefore, with my knee surgery, I decided to once again get myself back in ultimate health...with Sun Chlorella.   My husband is a skeptic.  I always tell him, you cannot knock it if you do not try it!

I am in physical therapy now and awaiting the ok from my doctor to start some water exercises.  I feel good and with everyday that passes, I feel that I can have full mobility and be able to run at some point.  For now, Pilates, Yoga and Swimming will be best.

If you are looking to really heal your body or get it in it's best health, I would suggest Sun Chlorella.  It can help you get there...The many benefits it has are amazing!  There is a lot of information you can research but, for me, I always need to try thing in order to see the benefits...and boy do I feel lucky I tried this!

Enjoy!

Shampoo vs Cleansing Conditioner

Hi Guys!!

I am sorry I am a little delayed in my Shampoo vs Cleansing Conditioner...Well here it is!!

I love shampoo!!  Hands down I love to make sure that my hair always looks amazing even on a hot and humid day... I've been a hair junkie for as long as I can remember.  I have this infatuation for long, shiny healthy hair.  Over the years that has been a challenge.  While I was pregnant with both of my sons, my hair was its healthiest.  Literally! All the extra vitamins your taking, virtually no hair fallout, and just gorgeous.  But I don't want to have to be pregnant to always have healthy hair...

Viviscal became a big part of my life since last year (this was my very first review!) and I am known to have at least a good five sets of different shampoos so that my hair does not get tired of the same old thing....After my children were born I noticed that my hair fell out so much it scared me.  I thought I was going to end up with bald spots and I would chop it all off and start new.

I got tired of my hair falling out, all the harsh chemicals in the shampoos, which I found can be more damaging than good after of hours and weeks of research.  So, one night watching TV I saw an infomercial on WEN Hair Care products.  I tried it and at first hated it, now this is when it very first came out (2005)....I gave it away and went back to shampoo....years later (February 2012) I decided to give it a go again, boy was I glad I did it, but this time, I followed the instructions!!!

WEN Hair Care Products has my hair its healthiest it has ever been since having my boys....I LOVE IT and cannot see myself going back to shampoo again!  A combination of Viviscal and WEN have my hair with minimal damage, breakage, frizziness, fly aways and the color lasts longer.  The secret to using this wonderful cleansing conditioner is parting your hair into four sections and using enough of the product in each section ( I use four pumps for my hair on each section) then massaging the scalp, running the product through your hair with a little water for a slight lather and cleans away....my hair is left in the best condition ever.  Smells great and looks amazing!!  ALWAYS!

I highly recommend WEN and guess what?  You don't have to order it because they are now selling it at Sephora!!  How cool is that??  Want great hair without the chemicals?? Try WEN....

Until next time!

Enjoy!

Anti-Aging, Meaningful Beauty...

I know what you all are thinking, Meaningful Beauty?  Really?  Does it work?  I have what I like to call "Seasonal Skin".  What do I mean by that?  It means that my skin changes like the seasons.  During the winter time, I have to moisturize like a pan needs butter.  During the warmer months I have to moisturize also, but not so intense.  I have freckles, which means I need to also protect against the sun.  Now that I am older (mid 30's) I need to make sure that my skin is hydrated and can still have the beautiful glow that we all seem to have but not notice until we are in our mid 30's and no longer have it.

I decided to give Meaningful Beauty a try.  In my late 20's I was using this product and loved it, however, I didn't see much difference.  Now, I am in my mid 30's and see an amazing difference in my skin.  I mean, come on, how many times will I get mistaken for being a 27 year old??  I love it and it is the biggest compliment I can get because it lets me know I am doing something right.

The kit comes with a facial cleanser, a day time moisturizer with SPF, a glowing serum (which is one of my favorite creams to use), a tube of eye cream to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles, you also get a generous tube of cream for your Decollete (which is the area of where the neck and chest meet) as a free gift,  I got a small jar of these really pretty beads filled with a precious oil for wrinkles, it was indeed a gift.

The secret to the product is a serum found in this wonderful melon that is grown in Europe (France to be exact).  It stops your skin from aging of if you would rather say Preserves your skin.  It truly is a fantastic line.  I from year to year like to change up my products, however, if its not broken, don't try to fix it.

Certain times of the year, my skin turns from overly oily to combination.  Having a skin care line that can handle that is fantastic, especially because I am a mom, chasing my 3 year old isn't easy and takes up my time (I wouldn't have it any other way)

I love this product because its easy, smells great and it works.  My skin is in its best health ever.  The cleanser does not leave your skin with that tight feeling, it leaves it feeling awesome, like your face is supposed to after a nice gentle cleanse.  The creams are not heavy at all, a little goes a long way so not much is needed.  I like to mix my day cream with Clinique's up-lighting Liquid Illuminator.  People have asked me about my skin when I am not wearing anything but my cream and the liquid illuminator.  Its great for the summer, I don't wear foundation at all because I have a tan, the illuminator does an awesome job at bouncing the light off the bad parts and giving light to the good parts of my face.  The creams have diminished my pores and given my skin its natural beauty back.

I am going to admit that there are times that I don't even use the moisturizer, I actually use the coconut oil instead.  It does not leave my face greasy at all.  I know it sounds weird, but it leaves my face flawless! The oil absorbs so well.  Another secret I will share is that I sleep on my back only.  It keeps my face from getting wrinkles.  I don't sleep on my stomach or sides, I sleep on my back- it keeps my face looking great.

All in all, the product is fantastic and I recommend this to any woman to is looking to improve and preserve the skin she has now.

You can find Meaningful Beauty on line at:
www.meaningfulbeauty.com

You can find the Clinique Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator at Macy*s and where ever Clinique is sold.  I use the color Natural 01.

Enjoy!!

Coconut Oil-Simple Secret to BEAUTIFUL Skin

Coconut oil is highly under estimated as a beauty product.  I grew up around coconuts.  Coconut water, coconut milk, desserts made with coconut.  When I was a little girl, I remember my grandfather making a sugar holder out of the coconut shell.  I still remember it to this day! =)

My colleague from work reignited my interest in coconuts, but this time, the oil.  Coconut oil has so many benefits.  I love love love to use it on my skin.  I know what you must be thinking.  Coconut oil for the skin??  Yes, for the skin.  I decided to do some research and found that the health benefits are amazing.  I know because for the past 3 months, I've been using it- I'm using it to cook with, for the skin, for the hair and pretty much in general these days.

Refined or Unrefined?  That depends on you.  Unrefined simply means that it has not been cleaned or bleached.  Therefore, it will have the scent of coconut, the taste of coconut.  So, if you do not like the taste or smell,  your better off getting refined or Virgin.

There are so many things you can do with this.  You can make your own hair mask, your own skin scrub with sea salt, sugar or coffee grinds and you can make a nice healthy dinner for your family.  I use both in my house.  I use the virgin unrefined to cook with and both refined and unrefined on my skin.   For the summer, one of the main essentials is to have the beautiful glowing smooth skin right?  This is how I get that.  I use sea salt, sugar or coffee and make an exfoliating scrub and it leaves my skin literally glowing.  Add a little shimmer to the oil when you get out of the shower and you will become so touchable!

Aside from the benefits it has for the skin on the outside, but I helps fight Alzheimer's disease and helps restore memory.  It cleared my son's eczema as if he never had it at all.  This oil is truly an amazing product for so many things, it keeps your hair and skin so healthy and beautiful inside and out.  I also got tired of asking my colleague to get me bottles (the jars in the stores we anywhere from $6.99 to $9.99).  SO, I did my research and found an amazing deal on Amazon.  Since I use so much of it, I got two 54 oz. tubs (Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut oil, this is Unrefined) for $49.00- You better believe I jumped on it!  I gave the other tub to my colleague, of course she was thrilled!  Now I have enough for the whole summer, and I get to use some for cooking and store some in separate containers (one in my bathroom and one in my bedroom, even one for my son) and use it all year around.  It truly is amazing.

My recommendation is for everyone to use this.  Its healthy for your heart, skin (it's a natural sunscreen too!) and amazing for hair masks.  Its recommended to eat 1 table spoon a day for memory and intestinal health, even to make your skin healthy from the inside out.  Really great for mommies with the "mommy brains" aka memory loss from pregnancy.  Give  it a try!  They have smaller jars in Walmart and Whole food or any health store.  It's a great investment for health over all and makes a really good coconut sauce for Tilapia with a hint of lemon!  If you would like more information on coconut oil's health benefits, visit:

Beautiful Hair.....with Viviscal

The very first product I am going to review is Viviscal.  Viviscal is a vitamin hair nutrition program for healthier hair period.  I started using this product in October of 2011 and I love it!

I came across this product in a magazine on my way to Miami on a girls weekend.  Models use this product because their hair is so over worked and processed that Viviscal helps keep it growing and nourishes it while going thru so much processing for fashion shows, shoots and commercials.  Makes so much sense!  So, I thought, I am going to give this a try.  I bought my first box on Amazon (they sold it a little cheaper for one box, if I didn't like it, I felt like I would not have lost much.)

What it does is it nourishes thinning hair and promotes existing hair growth.  I started taking this because to me, after having my children, my hair never really grew back the way it used to grow.  Now, anyone that knows me, they can testify that I am obsessed with having healthy, shiny beautiful hair.  This has given my hair its health back.

Viviscal contains AminoMar C Marine Complex.  What does that mean?  It means healthy stuff from the ocean aka deep sea fish.  It does contain fish ingredients and its gluten-free.

What did I notice after taking it for three months?  I noticed new hair growth, my eyelashes were super long.  I had people asking me if I got my lashes done!  My nails also grew in harder, healthier and super fast.  I decided to cut my hair in January. I did that so I can get rid of the empty ends and since I had such nice new growth, it was a great move.  I am currently trying to grow my hair out like I had it before and It has grown significantly since January.  Not only is the length impressive, but so is the shine, and I have almost no fly aways.

My hair feels thicker and has an overall health to it that I swear by these vitamins.  I am going to say that it is totally worth the price.  You can get a great deal online www.viviscal.com
if you buy two boxes you get a third box for free.  (plus shipping and handling).  For the first 3 months, you are to take two pills a day, then going to one pill a day.  Trust me, it is worth it!

I recommend this product for anyone that feels like they need to restore the health of the hair, if your hair is over processed from color, relaxing, extensions or even if it is naturally thin.  I also highly recommend this for new mommies! I know how much hair falls out after the baby is born, it can be scary but this will help.

Enjoy!
